Geothermal energy costs less to operate than any other heating and cooling system, plus it helps preserve our natural resources while decreasing our need for fossil fuels. With a Geothermal heat Pump System, you can get a 30% tax credit and can save up to 80% on your energy bill. Geothermal energy taps the constant temperature of the earth, while keeping your home comfortable year-round. Plus, a new system usually pays for itself in about 5 years and is a cleaner choice for the environment. Call us today for more info at 785.842.2258
Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is a geothermal heat pump? A geothermal or “ground source” heat pump is an electrically-powered device that uses the natural heat storage ability of the earth and/or the earth’s groundwater to heat and cool your home. How does it work? Like any type of heat pump, it simply moves heat energy from one place to another. How is heat transferred between the earth and the home? The earth has the ability to absorb and store heat energy. To use that stored energy, heat is extracted from the earth through a liquid medium (water or an anti-freeze solution) and is pumped to the heat pump heat exchanger. In summer the process is reversed and indoor heat is extracted from your home and transferred to the earth through the liquid. Why is Geothermal energy more efficient than standard gas furnace or an electric air conditioner? The big difference is the way the heat is transferred. A geothermal heat pump transfers heat between the refrigerant circuit and the GROUND. A standard gas furnace transfers heat between the refrigerant circuit and the AIR. The ground is a much milder heat source, since the ground temperature changes very little over the course of the years. The outside air temperature, however, varies significantly over the year. Do they require much maintenance? Because geothermal heat pump systems have relatively few moving parts, and because those parts are sheltered inside a building, they are durable and highly reliable. What's the feedback from homeowners? Surveys taken by utilities have found that homeowners using geothermal heat pumps rate them highly when compared to conventional systems. Figures indicate that more than 95 percent of all geothermal heat pump owners would recommend a similar system to their friends and family. |
